With its dirt fairways and sand greens, the first nine holes at Bend Golf Club presented a very challenging par 34 back in the 1920s. In fact, the winner of the first tournament on May 3, 1925 carded a respectable 10-over.

In fitting tribute, Arrowood’s 1925 will offer a formidable collection of 34 townhomes along the 10th hole. Each one is immaculately designed by award-winning architect John Muir and meticulously manicured by the team at Arrowood, the same people behind the successful townhome communities of Tripleknot at Tetherow, PointsWest and Milepost 1 at the 7th Mountain Resort, and many others.

Like each of those neighborhoods, 1925 not only has strong ties to one of Oregon’s premier golf courses, it also has direct connections to year-round recreation and social activities. In addition to golf, all 1925 residents can take advantage of the Club’s indoor swimming pool, exercise room and indoor/outdoor tennis courts. Add to that a busy calendar of events and social gatherings with friends, and you have the epitome of the Bend lifestyle.

Teeing it up—how bend golf club got started.

The names on the Bend Golf Club’s original charter as well as its first tournament scorecard on May 3, 1925 read like a who’s who of Bend’s founding fathers. Joseph Hixon, Jr. of the Shevlin-Hixon Lumber Company and P.R. Brooks of the Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company were both on the Bend team that defeated a group from Redmond. C.L. Isted, manager of Shevlin-Hixon, was the club president and drove the first ball off the tee when the course re-opened with turf in October of 1927.

But perhaps the most famous name associated with the Club from way back when was none other than H. Chandler Egan, who dazzled the nation with his golf skills in the early 1900s. After leading the Harvard Golf Team to three NCAA Division I Championships, he won the team Gold Medal at the Olympics in 1904 and took Silver in the individual competition.
