Artiquea Gallery was established in 2008 by E. Darwich, previously a UN employee, who developed a growing fascination for art over the years of her career.

Since 9/11, it became increasingly obvious to us that the gap between cultures is widening. Conflicts are affecting the outlook of people all over the world in a very negative way that leaves little room for hope. We, at Artiquea, felt that art was the best arena for re-connecting people and inspiring them positively.

The gallery's goal is to introduce Arab and Middle Eastern artists to the artistic mainstream in the UK and Europe in an effort to create a bridge between different cultures.

Our schedule for exhibitions, not only from the Middle East but also from other regions, has been enriched by friendly suggestions and offers from Mexico to Japan.

The gallery is full of wonderful artistic surprises, with unique items from Syria, Morocco, Egypt and Turkey.

We are still in the starting stages of our adventure and we are open to suggestions and advice.

Mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture has a long and prestigious history in Syria, with the pieces made specially for Artiquea requiring five-individual craftsmen and up to eight months of hard labour to complete.

Each element is made by hand in the traditional fashion without the use of power-tools and all materials are sourced in Syria from the sea and river mollusc shells for the mother-of-pearl to the walnut wood for the body of the furniture.
