The Akonolinga rutile property in central Cameroon, central west Africa, comprises deposits occurring as modern alluvial sands, from 1. 5 to 4. 5 m thick, occurring in small to medium size river beds. The alluvial sands line the river valley bottoms and are systematically overlain by about 1. 5m of vegetal soil and clay, topped by a more or less dense vegetation cover.
