The Resource

The Parehaka Sodium Bentonite deposit is located on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand close to the city of Gisborne. The deposit is essentially a large lens of Sodium Bentonite consistent in size and grade, Several cored drill holes confirms some fifty million plus Tonnes of easily accessible and extractable clay. The Bentonite is on the surface or with only zero to two meters of overburden. It is situated adjacent to the processing plant, and fifty five kilometers downhill to an export port. Mining and transport costs are therefore very low.

The Plant

The plant is a modern PLC controlled crushing and drying operation using a Jacobsen High speed mill for powdered product and a barrel dryer and classifying screens for absorbent products. It is capable of five tonnes an hour of finished powder and three tonnes an hour of absorbents.

For the purposes it is being used the Bentonite is not beneficiated in any other way.
