OUR STORY: When Communism ended, the people of the former Soviet Union were thrust into a new reality for which they were unprepared. After decades of cruel totalitarian rule, freedom was an unfamiliar concept with no readily understood application to their daily lives and circum- stances. The cries of those who were martyred for their faith offered an insistent plea before the God for recompense that the Gospel would indeed be preached to the ends of the earth — including the former USSR. After so many years of political, economic, spiritual, and physical oppression, people throughout the former Soviet Union longed for the wind of change to blow. Believers in Jesus, still hidden from the public eye, prayed fervently for the Holy Spirit to breathe new life and freedom into their land.
