Founded by husband and wife team Martin and Joan O'Neill in 2004 in Sunderland, the couple put their lifetime of retail experience to use working for themselves and returned many old favourite sweets to the High Street.

Concerned at the increasing 'sameness' of bland modern retailers and the domination of Cadbury, Nestle and Mars products, they decided to look for different products to sell. There are still some family owned sweet manufacturers left in Britain who have managed to keep out of the clutches of multi national companies and these form the back bone of Sweet Home Alabama's extensive selection. However, with the continued expansion of poundshops and other faceless corporations on the high street, Sweet Home Alabama remains determined to support the local retailer, and family run businesses.

Our new shop (just across the road from our old premises) is worth coming to Sunderland for alone. With over 800 different kinds of sweets are available, you won't believe your eyes!!
