Universal Marquees - a typical 2 week period during the summer 2009. Week 2 I thought it would be a good idea to put together a typical 2 week period in our busy summer, explaining the operational process of a Somerset Marquee Hire company. This is an in-depth diary of the erection and dismantling process for a Somerset, Devon, Bath and Bristol Marquee Hire company, showing our expertise and experience. Monday 7th September Monday is a very busy day for any Marquee Hire Somerset company because we have jobs up from the weekend which needs to be taken down, cleaned and organised then put back up later in the week. Today we had to travel down to Tavistock to take down the large Devon marquee, fortunately the weather had eased up sufficiently and the carpet was in good condition. We were unable to take any other marquees in Devon down so we opted to simply unload and prepare for the following days take down. Tuesday 8th September For today our schedule is to dismantle a 9m x21m marquee locally at Ruishton, a Taunton Marquee. The most important this is to take the equipment down briskly and safely, but also to return the garden, field or site to its original splendour. After taking the marquee down and loading of the equipment onto our fleet of transport we cleared up any rubbish etc and head back to the yard. Before we head home we need to unload and make sure all of the equipment is ready to be hired out again. Wednesday 9th September Today we needed to take down the large job at Cullumpton and transport all the equipment down near Tavistock in Devon. The plan was to get the same size Devon marquee put up on a different site before we started to lose the daylight. Thanks to a determined and prompt workforce we were able to successfully do this. Due to the sheer size and elaborate nature of the new job we were unable to finis completely. We were able to complete all structures, hard flooring, matting, dance-floor, lighting and double doors. The linings were to be raised and furniture had to be laid out. The customer was more than happy for us to return in the morning to complete the job in hand. Thursday 10th September Today we need to finish off the Devon Wedding Marquee near Tavistock , then travel to nearby Okehampton also in Devon to put up a marquee for a birthday party. We travelled down in two separate units, so once the bulk of the work was done we were able to split into two teams and start on the next job. This was really helpful because it was a good opportunity to sign the marquee over to the customer and show them exactly how to control the generator, lighting and heating. The marquee to go up at Okehampton is a 9mx18m with coconut matting, tables and chairs. As it was a flat lawn which was neatly cut the process did not take long, approximately 3hrs. Friday 11th September Now that the other jobs were finished we were able to focus solely on finishing off our week without any problems. We had to erect a 9mx21m located in Hatch Beauchamp near Taunton in Somerset. The most important task of this day was to once again provide our high standards especially because it was a local hotel with the scope for repeat business. The Somerset marquee was attached to the building with the use of a walkway leading to a porch, then the main marquee. The porch was a 6mx3m which acted as a fantastic meet and greet area and also was a perfect spot to hang coats etc. Inside the Taunton marquee there was enough space for a dance-floor, staging, buffet and 100 people to sit and eat (including a top-table). The top-table was running across the marquee just in front of the dance area, which had the starlight ceiling. The customers had opted for a curtain reveal to also divide the eating area from the dance area during the day-time. As a result of our efforts they venue offered gave us more business in the future.
