A prescription medication used to treat the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is Nolvadex. Nolvadex may be used alone or in conjunction with other medications. Nolvadex is a member of the class of drugs known as antineoplastics, or estrogen receptor antagonists. A nonsteroidal antiestrogen is Nolvadex.

Nolvadex, commonly known as tamoxifen citrate, is effective in treating metastatic breast cancer in both men and women. Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate) is prescribed to premenopausal women with metastatic breast cancer as an alternative to oophorectomy or ovarian radiation therapy. Evidence already in existence suggests that patients with cancers that are estrogen receptor positive are more likely to benefit from Nolvadex medication.
