Diflucan is a prescription drug used to treat the symptoms of a fungal infection. Diflucan may be used alone or in conjunction with other medications. The antifungals medication class is where Diflucan comes from.

It is advised to keep the daily dosage of oral Diflucan (suspension and tablets) identical to the IV therapy dosage due to a faster oral absorption. The initial therapy is typically prescribed with a loading dosage of 2 times daily to get plasma concentrations approaching a steady state by day 2.

The daily Diflucan dosage to treat infections, with the exception of vaginal candidiasis, depends on the infecting agent and the patient's reaction to treatment. It is necessary to continue treatment until laboratory results or clinical indicators show that the active fungal infection has subsided. Recurrence of infection could result from ineffective therapy.
