Removing a Brain Tumour . Mary had been a bit poorly with ear problems but the situation was deteriorating so I decided to look a bit further with a contrast CT scan (see below) . We found an additional friend occupying space in her skull. A kind of Brain tumour called a Meningioma. We know they happen in older cats and can sometimes be removed. With some specialist help and advice on the case from a Consultant tele- neurologist we preformed a craniotomy (thats the top of the skull bone where the tumour had invaded is removed) , and very gently eased out the tumour with our eye surgery instruments. We repaired the hole with a titanium mesh and tiny screws. Here is Mary waking up and much happier without her headache. Just wanted to say well done to all the nursing and theatre staff for keeping Mary stable throughout some very tricky moments. Keeping the Arterial Blood gases .perfusion pressures and electrolytes within some very narrow bands is critical to the success of a procedure like this.
