The Hanekom family purchased the original Winkelshoek farm in 1925. The first wines were made in 1938 and were sold in wooden barrels to farmers countrywide. The company Winkelshoek Wine Cellars was established in 1953. In 1981 the current owner, Hennie Hanekom joined his father on the Winkelshoek farm. He bought out his father's share of this family business in 1984. In 1991, Hennie decided to break away on his own. Today they are one of the most prominent bulk wine as well as entry level wine suppliers in the Western Cape and starting to reach out globally.
